The Reflective Cognition Model
Price range: $555.00 through $1,500.00
A structured model of metacognition: recognizing cognitive bias, monitoring reasoning quality, examining assumptions, and revising beliefs when evidence or conditions require a different interpretation.
Description
Domain: Metacognition, Cognitive Awareness, and Belief Revision
The quality of thinking is determined by the quality of attention brought to the act of thinking itself.
Metacognition is the capacity to monitor, evaluate, and regulate one’s own cognitive processes. The Reflective Cognition Model examines this capacity as a developed psychological skill rather than an incidental form of self-awareness. It addresses how people recognize bias, calibrate confidence, adjust reasoning strategies, and sustain analytical engagement under complexity and pressure.
The model distinguishes awareness of a cognitive condition from the ability to act on that awareness. Recognizing that a bias is operating does not guarantee successful redirection of the reasoning process. This distinction becomes especially important under stress, cognitive load, or identity investment in a belief that makes honest revision difficult.
What this framework examines
- Cognitive Bias Recognition: The structured identification of systematic errors in perception, reasoning, and judgment.
- Metacognitive Monitoring: Ongoing evaluation of reasoning quality, confidence calibration, and epistemic accuracy.
- Reflective Thinking: Deliberate examination of beliefs, assumptions, and inferential habits.
- Belief Revision: The conditions that permit or inhibit updating established beliefs in response to evidence.
Research context
The model draws on cognitive psychology, metacognitive monitoring and control, dual-process theory, sense-of-agency research, and the literature on cognitive bias and belief revision.
